This guide provides step-by-step instructions for linking your Canvas account with Fishtank Student, sending assignments to Canvas, and understanding which information syncs automatically between the two platforms.
Note: Before you can link your Canvas account as a teacher, your District Administrator must first configure the Canvas integration for your district.
How to Link your Canvas Account to Fishtank Student

Go to canvas.com or from your dashboard, click "Link with Canvas" (screenshot below). If your district has a domain, it will be auto-selected. Otherwise, choose your Canvas domain.
Note: If you do not see the option to integrate with Canvas, please reach out to your school's IT administrator. They must complete the steps provided in the following article to set up Canvas integration for your school: Canvas Admin Setup: OAuth2 App Configuration for Fishtank Student.
- Click "Authorize with Canvas"
- When redirected to Canvas, click "Authorize" to grant permissions.
- After authorizing, you’ll be returned to Fishtank. Your Canvas courses will automatically sync and map to your Fishtank sections.
How to Send Assignments to Canvas:
- Create a new assignment or open an existing one to edit.

When editing the assignment, check "Post to Canvas"
Save the assignment. When posted to your classroom(s), a Canvas assignment will be created with the assignment title, due date, and a link back to Fishtank Student.
Automatic Syncing
Once assignments are connected, the following information will automatically sync between Fishtank Student and Canvas:
- Student work entered in Fishtank Student
- Scoring and Teacher Feedback given in Fishtank Student
- Submission Details, including formatted questions, student responses, and multiple-choice selections with correctness indicators
